You probably already know that natural stone comes in many different colors and that it can be applied on the inside or outside of your home. But what many people are unaware of is that there are different types of finishes. Check out some types of finishes, the differences and where they’re most indicated for.
Polished
A polished finish is quite popular it gives the stone high gloss mirror like surface bringing out the colors and markings of the stone. It is most used in interior and exterior paving, fireplace, lavatory tops, counter tops, table tops etc.
Honed
It’s soft and smooth with little light reflection finish, unlike the high reflective and glossy look of the polished finish. It’s commonly used for light traffic walking areas where the polished finish can quickly wear off. It can also be used for table tops, but it is less resistant to stains.
Leathered
It’s basically halfway between the honed and brushed finishes, it is smooth and it is slip-resistant.
Brushed
This is a non-slip finish, not smooth like the other finishes. Mostly used for walking surfaces.
